Landscape Architecture Library Resources

The landscape architecture library collection began with the founding of the University of Illinois in 1867. The collection grew to include city planning resources in 1913 and from 1924 until 2008 the combined collection was housed in the City Planning and Landscape Architecture Library located in Mumford Hall. Today, the collection contains more than 150,000 volumes and is one of the largest landscape architecture collections in the country.

Through the years, as the collection grew beyond the capacity of the Mumford facility, approximately 100,000 volumes were relocated to the Main Library bookstacks or the Rare Book and Special Collections Library. In 2008 the CPLA Library in Mumford was closed and the remaining volumes were moved to the City Planning and Landscape Architecture Reference and Resource Center in the Funk ACES Library. Periodicals, monographs, new publications, and reference materials may be viewed in the CPLA Reference and Resource Center.
